Miskolc is the fourth-largest city in Hungary by population and is the administrative, economic, educational and scientific centre of the region of Northern Hungary as well as the administrative seat of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. It has around 170.000 inhabitants.

During the summer the average temperature is 19,8 – 20,1 Celsius with 61-66 mm monthly precipitation. The thousands of years of history, culture and natural potential of the city reveal a number of unique values, which find their way into the everyday lives of those who live in or visit Miskolc.

Miskolc has charted a new course of development over the past few years: welcoming investors and visitors with its dynamically developing economy, new sectors of industry, renewing city centre and rich cultural and tourist opportunities. Miskolc has a strong commercial and industrial history, where new business sectors (mechatronics, nanotechnology, environmental industry, information technology) have come to life in the old districts of heavy industry and where the former functions of a centre of commerce are being revived. Miskolc and the region of Northern Hungary are among the districts in the country with the most development potential. In the followings we introduce shortly the most famous beauties of the city.

Wonder in the heart of Europe – The Cave Bath (Barlangfürdő)

Have a bath in the thousand-year-old natural cave! The thermal water of the Cave Bath is reputed to cure pain in the joints, which combined with the extra clear air is splendid for your lungs. The Aquatherapy Department of the Cave Bath offers perfect regeneration and refreshment for healthy visitors as well.

Magic in nature – Flora and Fauna Park

Situated in of the Bükk National Park 700 specimens of 20 species live in natural environment occupying the area of a minor city. You are always allowed to feed animals, the attraction of tiger-feeding, crossing the hanging bridge above the valley, walking to wooden lookout towers are all parts of this unique adventure of flora and fauna.

Castle of wonders in the Bükk – Lillafüred

Located in the most beautiful environment of Hungary, Palace Hotel (Palotaszálló), neighbouring Lake Hámori (Hámori tó), and the hanging garden built in the rocks are all wonders in themselves. Miracles in natural caves below Lillafüred opened for visitors lead you under the ground. If you take the Lillafüred Forest State Railway, you can have a delicious lunch at the Trout Farm and can visit the Ancient Foundry, Massa Museum in Ómassa, which one is a unique in Hungary.

Queens’ wedding present - Castle of Diósgyőr

The picturesque 13th century Royal Castle at Diósgyőr is located at the northern slope of Bükk National Park. One of the most spectacular monuments of Miskolc served as the wedding present of the Hungarian Queens till the XVI. Century. After the complete reconstruction of the castle you will have opportunity to visit the largest knights’ lounge of Europe, the Queens’ apartment, while interactive exhibitions offer the atmosphere of the middle ages.

Sparkling, historical - Downtown

The main street of Miskolc is the longest walking street of Hungary surrounded by restaurants, coffee bars, lovely pubs, shops and colourful civil houses in the old town. Bridges of the Szinva River crossing the downtown, parks with lots of flowers and fountains, old churches tempt you all for an amazing walk! Do not resist! The passage of time is only indicated by the Belfry of the Gothic Protestant Church of Avas. Downtown of Miskolc is real history, the historical Miskolc itself.
